100+ Years of Industrial Heritage

The Tiskwat Mill represents over a century of industrial excellence on BC's Sunshine Coast. Originally constructed in 1908 as the Powell River Company's newsprint mill, it grew to become one of the world's largest during the 1960s under Macmillan Bloedel's ownership.

At its peak, the mill employed up to 2,600 people and shaped the entire community's development. The site was renamed Tiskwat in recognition of the Tla'amin First Nation's historical use of the area as a village, honoring the deep cultural roots of the region.

Following the mill indefinite curtailment in December 2021, the Tla’amin Nation acquired the land parcels at the site and then Cranberry Business Park Ltd acquired the remaining acreages.  Both acquisitions were made with a vision to transform the site into a modern, diversified industrial park.  This transformation represents a new chapter – one that honors the sites industrial legacy while embracing sustainable forward-looking development.  The community will greatly benefit from the repurposing and revitalization of this significant asset, creating new opportunities for employment and economic growth while respecting the site’s historical and cultural importance.
